SUMMARY:Danusha Laméris Presents the Nine Lenses of Poetry Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Danusha Laméris Presents the Nine Lenses of Poetry Workshop Series from February 11th to March 10th\, 5 Sundays at 5pm PT \nFrom Danusha: \n“Are you an Innovator? A Soul Keeper? \nThere are so many ways to write poems. And so many kinds of poems to read. \nSometimes\, it’s easy to think there’s a right way to write\, or a wrong way. Or just that we don’t–––and can’t–– relate to certain types of poems. \nWhat if there were a way to hold all the different styles without judgment\, to see what a poem has to offer and what it offers the same way we might study an animal in its own biome? \nThis is what coming up with the Nine Lenses of Poetry has done for me. It’s given me new ways to appreciate all kinds of poems\, as well as a way to frame my own work. \nMy hope is that by spending time studying these Nine Lenses\, you will be able to strengthen your own poems\, and to deepen in your appreciation of poetry. \nThis will an online Zoom class. No prerequisites. You don’t even have to be a writer! Just a reader\, and someone who is curious about poetry. \nIn five\, one hour sessions\, I will offer craft talks on the Nine Lenses\, contemplations and prompts\, and space at the end for a Q and A.” \nRegister for the class here: https://danusha-lameris.mykajabi.com/store

DESCRIPTION:Black History in Poetry and the Visual Archive featuring Tyree Daye\, Niki Herd\, Alison C. Rollins at 3:20 pm to 4:35 pm\, Saturday\, February 10th \nHow do we think of ourselves in history\, and when we do\, what do we see? Three innovative poets consider how personal and public histories—Black histories in particular—are intertwined and how the combination of poetry and images can invigorate our exploration of their complexities. Examining the use of both archival materials and personal photographs alongside numerous poetic forms\, this reading and conversation will encourage brave new ways of grappling with who we are and how we got here. \nRegister here: https://www.awpwriter.org/awp_conference/event_detail/25897

SUMMARY:Jacar Press Presents a Reading with Kevin Prufer in Conversation with Molly Twomey
DESCRIPTION:Jacar Press Presents a Reading with Kevin Prufer on Wednesday\, December 6\, 2pm ET \nFrom the organizers:\n“Their conversation will be centered around Kevin’s amazing new book The Fears\, Copper Canyon Press. \nGhostlit by streetlights” and filtered through tale and recollection\, Prufer examines our fears of loss\, death\, and obscurity. Narratives are braided together as Prufer manipulates white space to mimic the silence of minds at work on unsolvable problems\, how time “unravels / endlessly.” Here\, visions of classical Greece and the trials of ancient Romans coexist with the everyday—memories of a parent’s death or the loss of a pet. We bear witness as the poet writes “to preserve the intricacy of [his] own mind / against the eventual / certainty of [his] absence.” Exploring what it means to be forgotten and how legacy is preserved through poetry\, history books\, a mummy’s index finger\, and love letters from the grave\, The Fears invites us to consider what it means to matter. \nWednesday\, December 6\, 2023\n2pm East Coast time\nZoom link:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82814413801 \nMolly Twomey grew up in Lismore\, County Waterford\, and graduated in 2019 with an MA in Creative Writing from University College Cork. She has been published in Poetry Review\, Poetry Ireland Review\, Banshee\, The Irish Times\, Mslexia\, The Stinging Fly and elsewhere. She runs an online international poetry event\, Just to Say\, sponsored by Jacar Press. In 2021\, she was chosen for Poetry Ireland’s Introductions series and awarded an Arts Council Literature Bursary. Her debut collection\, Raised Among Vultures\, was published in May 2022 with The Gallery Press.”

SUMMARY:Copper Canyon Press 50th Anniversary Celebration: Poets on their Personal Bests Featuring: Jericho Brown\, Mark Bibbins\, and Cate Marvin
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with The New School Creative Writing Program on November 17th 7pm ET \nFeaturing: Jericho Brown\, Mark Bibbins\, and Cate Marvin \nHosted by: Erin Belieu\, Carl Phillips\, Michael Wiegers\, and John Reed \nPoetry is vital to language and living. Since 1973\, Copper Canyon Press has been publishing extraordinary poetry from around the world to engage the imaginations and intellects of readers. This 50th anniversary event celebrates the Press—and the many poets who have called it home—by way of a unique\, new anthology: Personal Best: Makers on Their Poems that Matter Most. In tandem with its publication\, this reading will feature award-winning poets (Pulitzer Prize\, Guggenheim\, and New York Arts Foundation\, among others) to read and discuss what they consider to be the best poems they’ve ever written. Offering an intimate portrait into the working mind of writers\, this program will ask how writers manage the critic within\, who or what they write for\, and how we might rethink what literature gets remembered most. \nPersonal Best editors Erin Belieu and Carl Phillips will host the poets in their reading and conversation. Director of the New School Creative Writing Program\, John Reed\, will welcome guests\, and Executive Editor at Copper Canyon Press\, Michael Wiegers\, will introduce the program with a survey of this fifty years of extraordinary poetry making.  \nWollman Hall\, The New School \n65 West 11th Street\nNew York\, NY 10011\nNovember 17th\, 7pm ET. \nRegister to join the livestream here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_MzM71KSzQDeJ9aQHN5saTQ#/registration \nRegister for the in-person event here: https://event.newschool.edu/coppercanyonpress50th
