SUMMARY:Jacar Press Presents a Reading with Kevin Prufer in Conversation with Molly Twomey
DESCRIPTION:Jacar Press Presents a Reading with Kevin Prufer on Wednesday\, December 6\, 2pm ET \nFrom the organizers:\n“Their conversation will be centered around Kevin’s amazing new book The Fears\, Copper Canyon Press. \nGhostlit by streetlights” and filtered through tale and recollection\, Prufer examines our fears of loss\, death\, and obscurity. Narratives are braided together as Prufer manipulates white space to mimic the silence of minds at work on unsolvable problems\, how time “unravels / endlessly.” Here\, visions of classical Greece and the trials of ancient Romans coexist with the everyday—memories of a parent’s death or the loss of a pet. We bear witness as the poet writes “to preserve the intricacy of [his] own mind / against the eventual / certainty of [his] absence.” Exploring what it means to be forgotten and how legacy is preserved through poetry\, history books\, a mummy’s index finger\, and love letters from the grave\, The Fears invites us to consider what it means to matter. \nWednesday\, December 6\, 2023\n2pm East Coast time\nZoom link:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82814413801 \nMolly Twomey grew up in Lismore\, County Waterford\, and graduated in 2019 with an MA in Creative Writing from University College Cork. She has been published in Poetry Review\, Poetry Ireland Review\, Banshee\, The Irish Times\, Mslexia\, The Stinging Fly and elsewhere. She runs an online international poetry event\, Just to Say\, sponsored by Jacar Press. In 2021\, she was chosen for Poetry Ireland’s Introductions series and awarded an Arts Council Literature Bursary. Her debut collection\, Raised Among Vultures\, was published in May 2022 with The Gallery Press.”
