DESCRIPTION:In Cycle 3: The First Person\, a 2021 Poetry Cycle offered by The Well Review\, Ellen Bass will be a poetry workshop tutor during Session 2: “I” on November 11 from 8 to 10 p.m. (Irish Standard Time) via Zoom. \nFrom the organizers: \nCycle 3: The First Person (November) \n€300.00 \n\nSession One: The First Person and Reality\, Guest Speaker: Dr. Anil Seth \nSession Two: “I” Poetry Workshop\, Tutor: Ellen Bass \nSession Three: “Are we here yet?” Poetry Workshop Tutor: Sarah Byrne \nSession Four: Reflections and Group Reading \nAll sessions will take place live on Zoom Thursdays 8pm-10pm (Irish Standard Time). \nCycle Three: 4th\, 11th\, 18th\, 25th November 2021 \nAll cycles also include one 1:1 poetry surgery appointment with Sarah over Zoom \n\n\nOur new poetry cycles bring together professional poets\, scientists and practitioners and connect them with writers who are at any stage of their creative development. \nThe introductory and reflection sessions are led by Sarah Byrne and will include close readings\, writing exercises and craft conversations. Materials will be provided to all participants ahead of sessions. \nEach cycle (Sleep\, Childhood\, The First Person) will have two guests\, usually during the middle weeks. \nSleep: Dr. Robert Stickgold (Lecture & Q&A) and Mary-Jane Holmes (Interactive Poetry Workshop) \nChildhood: Eoghan Dalton (Lecture & Q&A) and Matthew Dickman (Interactive Poetry Workshop) \nThe First Person: Dr. Anil Seth (Lecture & Q&A) and Ellen Bass (Interactive Poetry Workshop) \nAll sessions will happen on Zoom. Places are limited to eight participants per cycle. You are welcome to register for more than one cycle. She co-edited with Florence Howe the first major anthology of women’s poetry\, No More Masks! (Doubleday\, 1973). Her poems have frequently appeared in The New Yorker\, American Poetry Review\, and many other journals. Among her honours are Fellowships from The Guggenheim Foundation\, The National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council\, The Lambda Literary Award\, and three Pushcart Prizes. Ellen is also co-author of The Courage to Heal: A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (Harper Collins\, 1988) and Free Your Mind: The Book for Gay\, Lesbian and Bisexual Youth and Their Allies (Harper Collins\, 1996). Ellen founded poetry workshops at Salinas Valley State Prison and at the Santa Cruz County jails\, and she teaches in the MFA program in writing at Pacific University. She is currently serving as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.
