Pa-ta-shan-jen

Pa-ta-shan-jen (1626-1705) translates as "Mountain Man of the Eight Greats." He was a descendant of the Ming imperial family but became a monk after the Manchu invasion led to the collapse of the Ming in 1644. In 1680 he became, or pretended to become, mad, dumb, and given to fits of laughing and weeping.
