Jim Heynen

Jim Heynen was born in 1940 on a farm near Sioux Center, Iowa, the second son of first-generation Dutch-American parents. He was educated at the universities of Oregon and Iowa, and lived for a time in South Dakota, where he studied Sioux Indian language and culture. His short stories are justly famous and collected in the volumes The One-Room Schoolhouse, You Know What Is Right, and the classic The Man Who Kept Cigars in His Cap. He teaches at St. Olaf College.
