Engaging the Image with Copper Canyon Press

Good news! Our Board of Directors will match every donation made to this campaign up to our $25,000 goal. This means that your donation made between now and June 30th will be DOUBLED. Please give generously!

For over fifty years, your support has allowed Copper Canyon Press to remain at the forefront of American poetry by taking risks on remarkable collections that rethink the relationship between the written word and the visual image.

Today, we invite you to engage the image with us by donating to support exciting new projects that are happening right now and that continue the tradition of expanding poetry’s relationship with imagery at Copper Canyon Press.

Your past support has allowed us to publish numerous volumes that put language in conversation with image, including titles like C.D. Wright’s Casting Deep Shade, Forrest Gander’s KNOT, Dean Rader’s Before the Borderless, and, most recently, Paisley Rekdal’s West: A Translation, winner of the 2024 Kingsley Tufts Award.

These extraordinary works engage the image through photographs, documentary materials, collage, visual art, and more. Other recent and forthcoming examples include:

  • Black Bell by Alison C. Rollins (April 2024)
  • a little bump in the earth by Tyree Daye (April 2024)
  • Fugitive / Refuge by Philip Metres (April 2024)
  • The Stuff of Hollywood by Niki Herd (forthcoming August 2024)
  • Distinguished Office of Echoes by Lisa Olstein (forthcoming 2025)

Our goal is to raise $25,000 by June 30, 2024.

We need your gift to help ensure that Copper Canyon Press can remain the home for works like these that push the possibilities of poetry and encourage us into new ways of seeing and experiencing the world.

Your contribution is essential to help us face these realities:

Higher Production Costs: Production costs have soared. Making quality books that uphold outstanding artistic vision is extremely difficult to do in today’s market. We want to continue to say “Yes!” to the very best projects, including those with ambitious goals—whether that’s rich color imagery, beautiful hardcover production, or simply enough pages to contain the wealth of a career.

Accessibility: Without your gift, many of the books we publish would have to be priced out of reach for most readers. You know the transformative power of art. Your gift means that power can reach more people—whether it’s individuals directly, in classrooms, or through the great service of libraries.

Untold Stories: Many of these books document the lived experience of poets writing from historically marginalized or overlooked communities. They use words and images to address big themes of identity, heritage, witness, justice, and healing as they impact the very center of one’s self. They create an intimate place where we can meet each other in our shared humanity.
